What's the time? - Koliko je sati?
It's 7 o'clock. - 7 je sati (sedam je sati).
It's exactly 7. - Točno je sedam sati.
second, minute, hour - sekunda, minuta, sat
in the morning - ujutro
at noon - u podne
in the afternoon - poslijepodne (or more usual and shorter - popodne)
in the evening - navečer
at midnight - u ponoć
noon - podne
midnight - ponoć
hour - sat
clock - sat
In what hour shall we meet? - U koliko sati ćemo se naći?
About 10 PM. - Oko 10 navečer.
- There are things that are interesting to know about expressing time in Croatian language:
There are two ways of expressing time:
The first way:
- From midnight to noon we say:
1 AM - 1 ujutro
2 AM - 2 ujutro
3 AM - 3 ujutro, etc. until the noon
Example: I woke up at 3 AM - Probudio sam se u 3 (tri) ujutro. (m)
Probudila sam se... (f)
- After the noon we say:
1 PM - 13 sati (trinaest sati)
2 PM - 14 sati
3 PM - 15 sati, etc.
...
9 PM - 21 sat (dvadeset jedan sat)
10 PM - 22 sata
11 PM - 23 sata
The second way:
- This way is more common and more simple.
- From midnight of the first to midnight of the next day we say:
1 AM - 1 ujutro
2 AM - 2 ujutro
3 AM - 3 ujutro
...
- After the noon we say:
1 PM - 1 popodne
2 PM - 2 popodne
3 PM - 3 popodne, etc.
...
7 PM - 7 navečer
8 PM - 8 navečer, etc.

- In EVERY DAY speech we leave out terms "sat", "sati", and "sata" (grammar area - I won't bother you with it at the moment :) ), instead, we express time in the most simple and the shortest way.
Examples:
- We shall meet at 2 (PM) after lunch. - Naći ćemo se u 2 poslije ručka.
- We are arriving at 3 (PM). - Dolazimo u 3.
- She hasn't come home yet, and yet it's 1 (AM) already. - Još nije došla doma, a već je 1.
More examples of expressing time:
9:30 AM - devet i trideset (or just - half past nine - pola deset; which literally means "half of/to ten")
9:30 PM - dvadeset jedan i trideset (or just - pola deset, as well)
11:45 AM and 11:45 PM - petnaest do dvanaest (literally - fifteen to twelve) - because we rarely say "quarter to twelve" - četvrt do dvanaest; we usually say "fifteen (minutes)". It's the same case with:
3:15 PM - tri i petnaest (rarely - "quarter past three" - tri i četvrt)
When the exact time is not an issue, we speak generally:
We should have met in the morning. - Trebali smo se naći prijepodne (or ujutro).
"Prijepodne" literally means "before noon"
We should have met in the afternoon. - Trebali smo se naći popodne.
- Remember,all this seems more complicated than it actually is,you just need a little practise,that's all. ;)
